Professional painting depends on more than selecting a colour. Preparation, surface condition, paint selection and the order of work all influence how the finished surface looks and how easy it is to maintain.
Inspect the existing surface
Look for cracks, flaking coatings, stains, visible moisture problems and areas that have previously been repaired. Painting over an unresolved problem can hide it temporarily without addressing the cause.
Where moisture or leakage is suspected, investigate the source before relying on paint as the solution.
Decide what areas are included
Clarify whether the quotation covers walls only or also ceilings, doors, frames and other painted surfaces. This makes quotations easier to compare and prevents assumptions later.
Choose colours using the actual room
Lighting changes the way paint appears. Natural light, artificial lighting and surrounding materials can make the same colour look different in two rooms.
Review samples in the room when possible rather than relying only on a screen.
Select the finish around how the space is used
Bedrooms, kitchens, offices and high-traffic areas can have different maintenance needs. Discuss the room's use, cleaning expectations and existing surface before choosing the paint system.
Protect furniture and nearby finishes
Move smaller items where practical and discuss protection for furniture, flooring and fixtures that remain in the room.
Coordinate painting with other work
If electrical, carpentry or drilling work is also planned, schedule the tasks so the new paint is not immediately damaged. Final touch-ups should happen after disruptive installation work is complete.
Review the finish under normal lighting
After completion, look for consistent coverage, clean edges and areas that may require attention. The final review is easier when furniture has not yet completely blocked the walls.
